Andres Carvallo defined the term SmartGrid at 2:54pm on March 5, 2004

According to my extensive Austin Energy records (from February of 2003 to April of 2010), there are multiple places and dates where I introduced the term SmartGrid, where I used it, where I defined it, etc. The very first time that I can find written proof of my use of the term was at 2:54pm on March 5, 2004 on a document titled “ITT Strategic Vision”. ITT stands for the internal abbreviation of Information Technology & Telecommunications. The file is a 30 page document sharing my vision and plan to transform Austin Energy into a utility of the future. At its core, a utility of the future would require a SmartGrid. I defined SmartGrid as one word (not two separated by a space).

In addition to having defined SmartGrid on March 5, 2004, I also designed, got funding approval, and built the very first SmartGrid of any utility in the US by the Fall of 2009.

Let the record show.
